November 2012

Just a little update to let you know we have been busy planning the next year.  At this point we have setup 5 shade house projects and shipped the materials to Haiti.  We will be setting up one more for Haiti soon.  three of these will be built at Love a Child in January/February 2013 and the other 3 later this next summer.  In addition we are trying to prepare for a greenhouse to built in Guatemala.  That one should be very interesting as it will include a polymer cover and is a little remote up in the mountains in the area of the Ixil Triangle.  I must add that due to our faithful support, the 5 shadehouses already scheduled have been paid for and we should have sufficent funds to cover the others also.  We are so greatful for that financial support which enables us to serve in this way.

Since we built the shade house at Love a Child last summer it has survived two tropical storms and recently served as a refuge for some very wet chickens whose poultry house became flooded.  They were a pitiful site to behold.

Love a Child Summer 2012

We had a great mission trip to Love a Child at Fond Parisien, Haiti.  Accommodations and meals were great as were the missionaries at LAC.  We constructed an 18 x 40 foot shade house with a 40% shade cover.  It will be used to grow plants and trees to distribute to the local Haitian farmers and gardeners.  It is only a small part of their over all program that also includes poultry and fish production.  Poultry involves egg production as well as broilers for meat.  I can verify that the fish, Talapia are delicious.  We were greatly blessed to have been given this opportunity to serve the Lord in a small way.

Guatemala 2012

Jaime Oestriech

This trip was my first to Guatemala, and to somewhere other than Haiti. I was excited and didn't know what to expect. I was pleasantly surprised! Landing in the capital, Guatemala City and taking a 4 hour van ride through beautiful countryside, the roads were in very good shape (compared to Haiti). We were up in the mountains at about 8,000 ft. elevation, surrounded by beautiful mountains. The city we stayed in was called Quetzaltenango, which was the Spanish name, meaning the city of the Quetzal which is the National Bird of Guatemala, The Quiche Indians named the city Xela (Shay-lay) which means 10 wise men. This city is surrounded by 10 mountains, hence the name. We worked at a construction site for the Quiche Health and Training Center. We worked very hard in dust and high winds on a tight schedule of one week, with limited time spent at the work sight. We were blessed fair weather and a great work effort by what we call The Three Amigos. Joe, Ron and I, with the help of Jose, Fransisco, and Marco, we leveled out the work site which was just an uneven patch of weeds when we arrived. Through many wind gusts and Mini Dirt Tornadoes (Dust Devils only bigger) and a lot of prayers we made it and completed our project with just a few minutes to spare before work had to b stopped on the last day.

Luke 11:10 For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks find, and to him who knocks it will be opened.

Each day while serving the Lord in Quetzaltenango we could see the Lord’s hand upon us as we dealt with challenges. Each day we praised the Lord for His answers to prayer and His blessings as we labored not in vain. Each day we thanked the Lord for His daily provisions while asking forgiveness for our doubts and weaknesses. When we needed help our cry went out to the Lord who blessed use beyond what we imagined. The Lord brought to us Marco, Francisco Louise and Dwayne to help. It was only later did I truly realize not just for their help, but for a Spirit bathed fellowship that either one day I can enjoy again there in Guatemala or certainly in Glory.

Guatemala March 2012 Mission Project

Jaime, Ron, and I just returned from a 1 week trip to
Quatzeltenango, Guatemala to build an 18 X 40 foot
greenhouse. As in any trip there were obstacles to
overcome but God was with us and we saw a successful
completion of the project. Below are a few picture to
give you a picture of the project.

Guatemala 2012

Everything is ready for the trip to Guatemala March 3 - 10, 2012. We have forwarded the money to purchase materials in country, airline reservations have been made, and we have put together a tool kit customed to build greenhouses. Several other opportunities have presented themselves for us to assist other ministries with information and garden seed. Here in Troy the winter has been fairly mild and our cold frame greenhouse at the community garden still has spinach growing.

A construction team from Global Compassion Ministries is on site at this moment at Ti Paradi, Haiti and will collect information and data that will help us put determine better how to assist the agriculture efforts there.
